Das Clientupdate für Remotedesktopverbindung 7.0 ermöglicht Ihnen die Verwendung der neuen Features der Remotedesktopdienste. Das "Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool" richtet sich an PC-Besitzer ohne DVD-Laufwerk. Es überträgt Installationsdateien aus einem ISO-Abbild auf USB-Sticks und externe Festplatten. Das Programm läuft unter Windows XP, Vista und 7.

Mit dem "Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool" (WUDT) hat Microsoft ein Programm veröffentlicht, das eine einfache Installation von Windows 7 auf Rechnern ohne DVD-Laufwerk ermöglichen soll. Es überträgt eine im Microsoft Store gekaufte Download-Kopie von Windows 7, die im ISO-Format vorliegt, auf USB-Sticks oder externe Festplatten. Anschließend kann das Betriebssystem von diesen Medien installiert werden.

Die benötigte Speicherkapazität gibt Microsoft mit 4 GByte an. Zudem kann das Programm auch bootfähige DVDs erstellen. WUDT unterstützt lokalisierte Versionen von Windows 7, darunter Deutsch, Englisch, Französisch, Italienisch, Japanisch, Koreanisch, Niederländisch und Spanisch. Es läuft unter Windows XP, Vista und 7.

Microsoft bietet das "Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool" über seinen Online-Shop und das Download-Center kostenlos an. Konzernsprecher Brandon LeBlanc erklärte zudem, dass sein Unternehmen mit Partnern an ähnlichen Werkzeugen arbeite, die dann auch über deren Websites bereitgestellt würden.

To easily assess the security state of machines in an environment, Microsoft offers the free Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) scan tool. MBSA includes a graphical and command line interface that can perform local or remote scans of Microsoft Windows systems.

MBSA 2.1.1 builds on previous versions by adding support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. As with the previous MBSA 2.1 release, MBSA includes 64-bit installation, security update and vulnerability assessment (VA) checks, improved SQL Server 2005 checks, and support for the latest Windows Update Agent (WUA) and Microsoft Update technologies. More information on the capabilities of MBSA 2.1 and 2.1.1 is available on the MBSA Web site.

MBSA 2.1.1 runs on Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP and Windows 2000 systems and will scan for missing security updates, rollups and service packs using Microsoft Update technologies. MBSA will also scan for common security misconfigurations (also called Vulnerability Assessment checks) using a known list of less secure settings and configurations for all versions of Windows, Internet Information Server (IIS) 5.0, 6.0 and 6.1, SQL Server 2000 and 2005, Internet Explorer (IE) 5.01 and later, and Office 2000, 2002 and 2003 only.

To assess missing security updates, MBSA will only scan for missing security updates, update rollups and service packs available from Microsoft Update. MBSA will not scan or report missing non-security updates, tools or drivers.

The Windows 7 logo program aims to help customers make better purchase decisions by identifying products via the “Compatible with Windows 7” logo that have passed Microsoft-designed tests for compatibility and reliability on Windows 7. The "Windows 7 Client Software Logo Toolkit" provids software publishers a quick and agile, automated, light weight tool to validate their application’s compliance with the Windows 7 Software Logo requirements.

Der BitLocker-Schutz von Wechseldatenträgern wird BitLocker To Go genannt. Soll bei einem BitLocker-geschützten Wechseldatenträger die Sperrung auf einem Computer mit Windows 7 aufgehoben werden, wird das Laufwerk automatisch erkannt. Der Benutzer wird entweder aufgefordert, seine Anmeldeinformationen einzugeben, oder die Aufhebung geschieht bei entsprechender Konfiguration automatisch. Bei Computern mit Windows XP oder Windows Vista wird nicht automatisch erkannt, dass der Wechseldatenträger durch BitLocker geschützt ist. Mithilfe des BitLocker To Go-Lesetools können Benutzer bei BitLocker-geschützten Laufwerken die Sperrung aufheben, indem sie ein Kennwort oder ein Wiederherstellungskennwort (auch bekannt als Wiederherstellungsschlüssel) eingeben. Sie erhalten dann schreibgeschützten Zugriff auf ihre Daten.
